Got questions about
Income Tax?
Filing criteria, required documentation, due dates, late penalties, and return revisions simplified by our expert CA tax team.
Any individual whose income exceeds the basic exemption limit (₹3 Lakhs under the new tax regime or ₹2.5 Lakhs under the old regime) is required to file an ITR. Filing is also mandatory if you meet certain criteria, such as spending over ₹2 lakhs on foreign travel or paying an electricity bill of over ₹1 lakh.
Commonly required documents include your PAN card, Aadhaar card, Form 16 (for salaried individuals), bank statements, investment proofs (if opting for the old regime), and details of any other income sources like property or capital gains.
For individuals and non-audit cases, the due date for filing ITR is usually July 31st of the assessment year. For businesses requiring an audit, the deadline is generally October 31st.
Filing your return after the deadline may attract a late filing penalty of up to ₹5,000 under section 234F. You may also have to pay penal interest on any outstanding tax liability.
Yes, you can file a revised return if you discover an error or omission in your original return. The revised return must be filed before the completion of the assessment year or the completion of the assessment, whichever is earlier.
